We have a new Marketing Monday up on the site! Click here to see the latest post.
I’ve been seeing a lot of questions about the new Facebook banner that’s been added. It’s a very simple banner that basically just gives you a link to your page, in the same way as the existing links in the menu bar. I like it a lot, and I hope people will too.
I think there is a lot of confusion about the new Facebook banner. So let me start by saying that I’m not in the marketing team. My job is to make sure that all the new stuff on the site is working and it looks good. So I’m not involved with any of the Facebook changes.
The reason I mention this is because I want to make a point. My job is to make sure all the new stuff on the site is working and it looks good and so is the new Facebook banner. And so far I’ve seen that the new Facebook banner is working well for me. Its got a lot of potential. The thing is, it’s just too easy to get it wrong and it can cause confusion among readers.
In order to be successful, you need the right mix of content to catch the attention of your readers. Not too little, not too much. And to be clear, what I mean by content is what the webmasters here are producing. It’s not a bunch of pictures of cats and other random crap. It’s what you’re putting on this website.
So what is the correct mix? I would argue that the right mix is to be found in the Facebook banner, which is to say pictures of cats, pictures of cars, and a bit more stuff that has nothing to do with Facebook at all.
There are several ways you can market your blog, so long as you follow the same basic guidelines. The first is to start with a very simple, clean page that consists of a link to your blog and a picture of your cat. If you’re on FB then put your links in the comments in the right-hand sidebar. If you’re not then try a bit of this, put your links in the sidebar, put your picture in the sidebar, and point out that you’re on FB.
The second is to do what I did and simply start writing and posting on your own blog. This is by far the most effective way to get traffic and it will show up in your Google search. If you dont have a blog, create one or join a community and get some guest posts written about you.
I have a friend who has been blogging for a while now. He’s been doing it for free on a blogspot.com blog. He’s gotten traffic and he’s been posting lots of stuff on his blog. He’s been doing this off and on for like three years. He’s been using the same pictures on his blog, and then he got tired of doing that.
He has also been using social bookmarking sites, but hes been using Google to see how long it would take for his blog to get traffic. Hes done a few of these things and hes been doing this for about 6 months.
