When it comes to marketing, focus is a powerful tool. It can give you great results for a small investment. And I am not the first to say this. We recently did a focus marketing campaign for the new year and saw incredible results. From an investment of just a few hundred dollars, we were able to create a brand that had a unique, distinctive, and impactful look that could not be found elsewhere.
The concept of focus marketing is pretty simple. If you have a target market, then focus on that target market. It’s a great way to leverage your business and the attention you’d get by focusing on what really matters to you. Think of it like a marketing campaign. Its a lot easier to sell a t-shirt or a book if there is a clear target market.
Focus marketing is all about targeting the right people at the right time. We want to have a unique, distinctive, and impactful look that could not be found in other media, so we decided to focus on Tampa, Florida, as our target market. This focus was intentional. Tampa is one of the most vibrant cities in the U.S. with a booming tech, food, and entertainment industry. We wanted to create a brand that would make a big splash in the city.
We will always remember the day that we signed on to focus marketing in Tampa. That day, we made a promise to our agency partners that we would work relentlessly to have a unique, distinctive, and impactful look that would be sold in an environment that was not only fun and affordable, but also one that would serve a clear target market. This meant a lot of focus marketing tactics because the only way our clients could get our attention was to spend less and less money with us.
As it turns out, we were wrong. While the focus marketing in Tampa was a fantastic strategy, it wasn’t enough. That year, focus marketing was not a great marketing practice. It didn’t generate more sales than we spent, and it had a very negative effect on our brand awareness. This was clear to anyone who watched TV commercials when they had to choose between a Chevy or Ford. The Ford commercials were made by Chevy, and the Chevy commercials were made by Ford.
The point is focus marketing had a negative impact on our brand awareness, and that impact was compounded because the commercials were made by the very brand people felt they had to choose between. In other words, we were paying attention, but not paying enough attention.
Focus marketing is an easy way to make people spend money on your brand. One of the simplest ways to start is to use a few simple words and images to convince people you’re the best brand in the world. I wouldn’t just use a few words though. I’d do a lot more research and find some great pictures and videos I could use in my commercials (I’m not the only one who loves to use a video to communicate the content of my words).
The point here is that you need to understand what youre saying and why youre saying it. If youre not clear on what you need to communicate or why, youll never get the most out of it. The best way to learn is to practice with someone who knows what youre talking about.
