While I’m a firm believer in the concept of doing “big” things by doing “small” things, I’ve been on the fence about whether or not a small business should have an entry level. I like the idea of getting off the ground with a great idea, getting off the ground with an excellent product, and then growing the business into a great business from there.
In business development, we can also look at the entry level as the level for growth. I see it as creating the right culture and environment for the business to grow. I also see it as the level where the business can take a bigger risk. If you dont have the right culture and environment, the chances of success are slim to none.
One of my own favorite ways to grow my business is by creating an awesome landing page. A landing page is a page that someone types in at the website interface. The landing page is where you get the first look at what a potential customer can request and get, and if someone really likes what you’ve created, they can then share it with others.
The best landing pages are ones that are simple and easy to understand, and one of the most important things about them is how they turn into referral sources. So you should always ensure that your landing page is easy to use, but also gives you the opportunity to promote your business in a very personal way. That’s a very small issue, but it’s still a concern. We’re talking about the company and its products, but there are also business development jobs where you have to go beyond the product and sell yourself to potential customers, vendors, and people in the business.
