I am auli’i cravalho and I know who I am. This is my personal declaration of self-acceptance.
It’s not always easy to love yourself at every stage of your life, but it’s necessary if you want to be happy. Sometimes the things that make me feel most loved are the simplest: my family, friends, and home in Hawaii; singing songs that have meaning for me with those around me; following my heart even when it leads down unfamiliar paths. The world can seem like an overwhelming place sometimes, especially as we move through difficult or confusing times—but there’s so much beauty out there waiting for us! Whether it’s being kind to someone else, appreciating the plants and animals all around us, or the simple pleasures of a cup of tea in our hands on a rainy day. We were born to love ourselves so that we might then learn how to love others with kindness, openness, and understanding. It is not always easy to find this self-love but it’s worth fighting for because there are no greater rewards than feeling fulfilled by who you are inside and out. There is no me without you; only what we share together makes life beautiful. I hope these words will inspire those reading them—and even more importantly: myself!
